Kids from the Valley make and break ramps with wood stolen from their father’s construction sites. Pools vandalized in the name of fun. Photographer Jeff Johnson began a 10 year journey collecting amateur photos from his adolescence to provide a porthole into the subversive nature of the everyday suburban skateboarder.

Captions: (1) The Cover and slip case were designed by T. Adler Books; (2) Interior: Square format allowed for cinematic moments with full bleed spreads and well paced galleries. Folios/captions allow the image to sit nicely within the white space, adding elements of calm among chaos; (3) The design of the book is a blend of classic photo gallery setting infused with a bit of punk agnst for blow up quotes and close crops across the gutter. In many ways, the white space can be taken as a punch to the gut when taking a closer look at the ethos of the characters.
